FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a form of health care that does not use drugs or surgery; it is a natural way of healing with a strong focus on prevention. Chiropractors look at the body as a whole in order to determine what’s wrong and how to fix it.
Within every joint in the body there are at least three avenues for healing that run through it: a nerve, a blood vessel and a lymphatic channel. If you have a joint that’s not moving, i.e. functioning, properly, the things that run through that joint also won’t be able to function properly and your natural healing capability is impaired. Evaluation of each joint is used to find ones which are not moving as well as they should; a Chiropractic adjustment is then applied to restore motion and function to both the joint and the things that run through it. The adjustment therefore gives the body the best possible chance to heal itself if there is damage or disease.
Not only does the adjustment help the body heal but also helps it to be in tip top shape in order to defend itself against future injury or disease! In addition to the adjustment, proper nutrition, exercise, water intake and sleep are all part of the Chiropractic approach to wellness.
Can I use my health insurance?
Yes; our doctors accept a variety of health insurance plans. If you are unsure as to whether or not your plan covers Chiropractic care, or if your doctor participates with your plan, please call your insurance company to verify. Some of the major plans we accept include but are not limited to:
- Independent Health
- Blue Cross Blue Shield
- The Empire Plan (MPN)
- United Health Care
- NYS Workers’ Compensation
- NYS No Fault
- *Medicaid products do not cover Chiropractic care
Please have your insurance card ready when you make your appointment.
Due to the widespread insurance changes that took effect in 2014, our office will now require payment at the time of service for ALL patients with a high deductible health plan (HDHP).
All patients with a HDHP will be expected to pay our usual and customary fees for exams and adjustments at their scheduled appointment in an effort to avoid the accumulation of large balances. If your insurance allowance is less than this amount, the difference will be placed on-account for future use, or you may request a refund check.
Fees for initial exams and re-examinations may be higher than what we require at the time of service for HDHPs and you will be billed for the remainder due once processed by your insurance company.
Please note, not all insurance plans cover maintenance Chiropractic care. If you would like to continue as a maintenance patient, speak to you Chiropractor about your options.
What if I don't have health insurance?
All of our doctors accept cash (self-pay) patients. We also have packages available for purchase for maintenance Chiropractic care. Please contact the office for details.
Do I need to have X-Rays taken?
That depends. After a history and examination are performed, your Doctor of Chiropractic will determine if it is medically necessary for you to have X-rays taken before they can provide treatment. If so, they will refer you to an imaging center that is convenient for you.
Is Chiropractic care safe during pregnancy?
Absolutely! In fact, regular Chiropractic care throughout your pregnancy is not only safe for both you and your baby but it can also help your body be in the best possible shape for childbirth. Chiropractors use a special technique, called The Webster Technique, during pregnancy in order to align your pelvis correctly. The Webster Technique is a gentle adjustment, utilizing a special table that conforms to your belly. It is performed by Doctors of Chiropractic that have been certified in this particular type of care. Drs. Alaina Rowswell-Kulikowski, Sasha Marinaccio and Danielle Tomko are ICPA certified to provide this special care. Call our office to speak with one of our doctors, or look at our “Pregnancy Corner” page for more information.

How can Massage Therapy help me?
In the past decade, an overwhelming amount of evidence has supported the claim that massage therapy is beneficial to the body in many ways. It is not only used as a preventative practice in modern medicine but can also be used to treat many existing ailments. Muscle soreness, injury or stress, reduction or elimination of headaches, whiplash, TMJ and carpal tunnel syndrome, as well as tension related respiratory disorders such as bronchial asthma, emphysema and COPD have all seen reported improvement with massage. Improved posture and body motion, reduction of scar tissue, improvement of skin tone, increased circulation, elimination of toxins, reduced swelling and most of all reduced anxiety all help to promote a healthier well being through massage.
