Dr Alaina cropHere in our offices at Riverview Chiropractic Health we are blessed with a practice sharing model of business. Each Chiropractor and Massage Therapist has his own practice. That practice shares an address and rents mutual space at Riverview Chiropractic Health. By sharing an address, we are able to have a family friendly schedule that benefits both the practitioner and the patient. We are able to keep costs low and conserve resources. We share and expound on each other’s areas of expertise and experience. We enjoy this business model and have grown with the years.

Not all of our providers have the same training, education, experience or background but we are all licensed by New York State in our assigned professions. We all have the same mission, to help generations of families pursue optimal health naturally.

Recently, it has come to our attention that some patients have been traveling between practices due to time constraints. If you see multiple providers in the practice, we would like to express our desire to improve on continuity of care. By that we mean if you are experiencing a persistent challenge to your health that is not being resolved or improved upon as you would expect, we encourage you to streamline to your one main provider and express your concerns. That way, we can develop a treatment plan and alter it more efficiently if necessary.

Cranial Adjustments

Our Chiropractic and Massage team is dedicated to the health and function of your musculoskeletal system. This newsletter is particularly focused on the health and function of the cranium. There are many health challenges that can be helped when improving dysfunctional cranial motion. Concussions, headaches, blurred vision, vertigo, learning disabilities, trouble nursing, snoring, seizures, difficulty chewing, earaches, insomnia, tics, attention deficits,memory loss,and Temporomandibular joint dysfunction are examples of these challenges.

The skull is made up of 13 pairs of small bones that join along sutures. The joint motion along these sutures are extremely important. The skull, spinal column and bones of the pelvis all work together with membranes around the brain to push Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) produced in the ventricles of the brain rhythmically around the spinal column and brain to provide an electrical atmosphere conducive of synaptic communication for the central nervous system. Optimal cranial movement is a key part of pursuing optimal health.

cranial adjusting“Is this treatment different than my regular adjustment?”

Addressing the musculoskeletal health of the cranium with either craniosacral therapy, sacro-occipital technique or cranial adjusting can be done by different practitioners in different ways depending on his training. Both massage therapists and Chiropractors as well as PT and cranial osteopaths can perform this type of care.

Yes, these techniques for cranial adjustments are different from typical spinal adjustments. For the most part, you are lying on your back and the provider is gently maneuvering the cranium accentuating a normal motion in coordination with deep breathing. There is no audible cracking or popping sound.

The-Benefits-of-Cranial-Sacral-MassageWhat types of benefits can I expect from cranial adjusting?

When you have cranial work done, the first thing that you notice is a pleasant tingling type of sensation in your skull. Some people report feelings of relaxation, or increased blood supply. Other benefits of cranial work include improved clarity of thinking, a decrease of symptoms such as dizziness, pain, head fog, or throbbing. Some people notice a better breathing pattern, acuity of hearing, the teeth line up better when they are chewing or the mouth and tongue when swallowing. Over a period of time, many patients notice cranial symmetry as well as facial symmetry as a benefit. Even things like improved behavior, focus and emotional stability are often reported.

cranial pain“How would I know if someone needs cranial adjustments?”

As with everything, we hope that when you experience challenges to your health you would consider Chiropractic first. Please tell your practitioner if you are experiencing any of the aforementioned symptoms. If you, or someone in your family has experienced head trauma because of sports, car accident or accidental injury, that would be a good reason to have a cranial evaluation. If a child you know has experienced birth trauma, needed instrument assisting for delivery such as vacuum or forceps, has a head tilt or has an flattened back of the head that would be a good reason to have a pediatric cranial evaluation.

Moist and packed with yummy fall flavor and the perfect amount of spice, these Pumpkin Protein Muffins are so delicious that I can guarantee that no one will ever know that they are loaded with protein and healthy carbs, and that they are low in sugar!

prep time: 10mins, cook time: 18mins
servings:12 Muffins


1 3/4 cup old fashioned oats (use gluten free, as needed)
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice OR cinnamon
1/2 cup sweetener of choice that measures like sugar*
1/4 cup vanilla or multi-purpose protein powder (1 scoop if using IdealLean)
1 cup canned pumpkin (NOT pumpkin pie filling)
1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
1/2 cup So Delicious Dairy Free Yogurt Alternative (any variety works)
3 egg whites
Optional add-ins: 1/4 cup chopped walnuts, pecans, or almonds, mini chocolate chips, raisins or dried cranberries


1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a 12-cup muffin pan with foil cupcake liners, or spray with non-stick cooking spray. Set aside.
2. In a blender, (or food processor), blend the oats and all other dry ingredients, until oats are ground. Add all other ingredients, except add-ins, and mix until smooth. ( Note: I usually stop the blender and help move mixture around with a spoon)
3. Divide mixture among muffins tins, and place into pre-heated oven. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until tops are lightly golden brown. Note this batter is very moist, and a toothpick may not come out clean…Don’t worry it is baked through if the tops are golden brown!
4. Cool muffins before removing from pan.
