Is it enough just to be out of pain, or do you want to pursue optimal health naturally? Our mission statement at Riverview Chiropractic Health is to help generations of families pursue optimal health naturally. The chiropractors and staff in these health offices would like to get you out of pain today and bring you on a journey toward optimal health. We desire to help you move beyond the pain and continue to help you pursue wellness.
We are all in a health continuum. Either we are getting healthier or less healthy. No one is really just maintaining their health because we are in a vital and changing environment. If we aren’t actively pursuing health, we move in the wrong direction on that continuum. There are many things that you can do to help your body get healthier. I often talk with my patients about their health account.
Getting a good night’s sleep is a depositinto your health account. Drinking enough water every day, good nutrition and exercise are deposits into your account. Finding purpose and pursuing spiritual development also deposit into your account. Getting a massage or having your joints aligned so that they function at a higher capacity is also a deposit into your account. When life is stressful, you incur an injury, or you are exposed to a toxic environment, your body is withdrawing from your health account. Our goal is to encourage and coach you to have more deposits than withdrawals. (Just like at the bank.) That is wellness care.
Not every patient in our practice will have the same goals for their health as we might desire. We understand and respect that. But, we do want to educate you on the value of pursuing optimal health. The chiropractic relationship is usually initiated because a patient is struggling with an health issue. The Chiropractic team then tries to ascertain what the problem is, and what can be done to help your body heal itself. The struggle could be pain. That challenge could also be constipation, stomach aches, infections, digestive issues, incontinence, hormonal difficulties, anxiety, genetic problems, deformities, etc. After the first visit to the chiropractor, the doctor presents an acute treatment plan. The treatment plan consists of your adjustments, changes to nutrition, exercise, sleep, etc. Sometimes we suggest massage, or refer to another provider for assistance. Usually, the second visit we sit down and discuss your goals. Do you want to address just this problem, or do you want to pursue optimum health? We even have a little rack card we give you and hopefully have the opportunity to discuss with you what maintenance and wellness care is with Chiropractic.
While you are under your acute Chiropractic careyour body heals itself and returns to a pre-injury status. We will tell you to come back when we can be of service to you. Some people decide they would prefer to have their joints aligned on a regular basis weekly, monthly, quarterly, bi-annually, yearly, etc. and then we set up your next appointment. The choice is yours.
Everyone is different, and we respect your choices. I myself get adjusted every month and sometimes more frequently if I am struggling with something. As a result, my health account has been pretty full. I have not overdrawn in a long time. If I do, I go under acute Chiropractic care again to get back in balance. My goal is to continue to pursue optimal health. I’m not merely looking to maintain a pain-free status. That would be considered maintenance care. I often get adjusted when I have no symptoms at all. I am just looking to put more deposits into my health account, that is wellness care.
Have you thought about what kind of Chiropractic relationship you want? Are you looking to just get out of pain? Are you looking to maintain being pain free? Or, would you like to pursue optimal health? We would ask that you discuss this with your provider in our health offices at Riverview Chiropractic Health. We want to serve you, and help you with all of your chiropractic needs. If you are not satisfied with your care here, please let us know. We want to provide an environment where everyone can pursue Optimal Health.
INSURANCE or 3rd PARTY REIMBURSEMENT
This subject goes hand-in-hand with how a 3rd party or an Insurance company would reimburse for acute, maintenance and wellness chiropractic care. Many people pay quite a bit for health insurance. It seems being uninsured in this country is not going to be an option. Our government is in a climate where it is a public responsibility to purchase medical insurance. Obviously, depending on your philosophy, you may agree or disagree with that ideal. Chiropractic is not medicine. In fact, we do not make any medical or pharmacological recommendations. So, this becomes a personal decision. Is it irresponsible to abstain from insurance for Chiropractic care?
Should insurance companies be required to provide a chiropractic care benefit? New York State, in 1992 proposed that the state adopt an Insurance Equality Act. It was made into law that health insurance companies who are active in New York State must provide third party reimbursement for Chiropractic services as an option for their clients. New York State and the United States government are exempt from this requirement. The only federal governmental insurance that has a chiropractic benefit is Medicare. (And that comes with many governmental restrictions). Medicaid and governmentally funded programs do not.
There is not a distinct regulation about HOW a company should reimburse chiropractic service as a benefit. In fact, the insurance can choose to reimburse below copay, or discern a deductible higher than what you will utilize, or perhaps that chiropractic services don’t apply to the deductible. ( ie- You pay for all of the charges and no payment is made by insurance to the doctor or applied to your deductible). Insurance companies also charge you more for carrying a chiropractic rider than you likely use. (Making a profit from your choosing a chiropractic benefit). They can even determine what type of care they consider is medically necessary, how long they think it will take for you to be symptom free and what type of technique the doctor is allowed to use to help you. (Ironic since we don’t use medicine, they could easily pose an argument that there is never any medical necessity for an adjustment).
As a general rule when insurance companies create contracts with Chiropractors, few have wellness or maintenance benefits, many determined that only pain alleviating chiropractic adjustments to the spine are to be reimbursed. Understandably, our providers have decided to participate with limited insurance companies. It is less and less attractive for us to participate at all but we are trying to be sure that someone within our offices participates with your plan to maximize the potential benefits you are required to paid dearly for. Even when the provider participates with your plan, you may end up spending more to use your benefit rather than just using our “Pay at the time of service” rate and not submit to your insurance carrier. (It can cost us $3-12 to submit your claim to Insurance. So, if we do not have to submit your claim we pass that savings onto you.)
As a result, we are making changes in our office to help generations of families pursue optimal health. For those of you who decide that wellness care is what you desire we will have expedited, simple and less expensive options for you. For those of you who desire to utilize chiropractic for acute pain based care, we will continue our best to satisfy your chiropractic needs and utilize your insurance benefits. So please come in quickly for symptom based care and complete the treatment plan. There may be more paperwork and communication necessary that you will be responsible for completing to utilize outcome based assessments or other requirements from your insurer.
The office is open on Columbus Day October 10th. If you have been looking for a day to schedule an appointment during the work-week, we are open to serve you.
Please be aware that if you have not called to cancel or reschedule an appointment, we reserve the option to bill you for a no-show appointment. No-call no-shows for appointments takes an opportunity away from another patient in need; please be respectful of others and if you cannot make your appointment, call the office immediately so we can open a slot for someone else.
Our Nutrition class has been rescheduled. Many people have expressed an interest in the nutrition and cleanse class. Please sign up at the front desk or send us an email if you would like to reserve a spot. Our upcoming classes will be November 7, December 1 and December 13 at 6:30pm.
